Analytics Measure Your Website’s Success and Improve Marketing Decisions

Measuring Success, improving decision making, optimizing the web site and optimizing Internet marketing campaigns (SEO, Adwords, PPC, banners, etc.) are the main reasons for putting analytics on your site. Unfortunately, there are no existing software solutions that we have seen that can provide the necessary analysis. However, many analysis programs allow the export of data which can then be further analyzed to provide useful data.

Here are a couple of examples of the reports we use. The first image below has the keywords hidden but you can see something unusual going on.

In the 2nd column you can see the no. of people (clicks) who came to the site. This is a typical metric. However in the 3rd column you can see the number of quality visitors. We use different methods for defining the quality algorithm, depending on the client and industry. It is now easy to see which keywords are best. These are not necessarily the keywords that bring in the most visitors, though the advertising companies who emphasize click through rates might want you to believe they are.

In addition you can now see the cost per quality click. Now it is easy to decide which keywords need to have their bids adjusted up or down if ROI is the only goal. In most cases there are other considerations and therefore additional analysis is needed. For example if you are selling high cost items the cost per visitor may not be relevant as long as you are making a profit.

In the next example we show how to tie in PPC costs to revenues. This is important to know when deciding how to allocate advertising resources--by country for example. These analysis tools, which we have developed, are critical to our client's search engine marketing success stories.
